Youth Outdoor Club Keeps Teens Active this Winter
When the Chugach National Forest hosted youth engagement forums earlier this year, kids were asked what factors kept them from getting outdoors as much as they’d like. Youth responded that gear and transportation costs were major issues, but many also cited a lack of friends who shared their same sense of adventure as a major reason for not getting out more. CCF Partners with Anchorage Waterways Council
Thanks to a grant from REI, and our partnership with Anchorage Waterways Council, Alaska Geographic and the Chugach Children’s Forest are able to teach youth in Anchorage about healthy creeks and streams. With the help of Matt Kays from the Anchorage Waterways Council, Ms. Hickox's class at Girdwood Elementary School produced a video for the 2013 WetlandsLive! Video Contest. Campbell Creek Estuary Natural Area is now open to the public!
On October 11th, the Great Land Trust and the Anchorage Park Foundation hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Campbell Creek Estuary Natural Area. On Sunday September 8th, dozens of teens woke up early to board a south-bound train headed for the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop.
