In July, Chugach Children’s Forest Outdoor Club participants had the opportunity to ice climb on Matanuska Glacier! This marks the third year that NOLS Alaska has provided this amazing opportunity to the Chugach Children’s Forest youth. Many of the students who participated had never had the opportunity to visit Matanuska Glacier (about a two hour drive north of Anchorage), much less climb it! The trip also marked the first time many of the participants had tried any type of climbing – rock OR ice. Even though they were out of their comfort zone, the students did a fantastic job on the ice walls. Scroll down to check out photos from the exciting day on the glacier.
