Update: The deadline for teacher scholarships are now closed. Please check back for opportunities in 2013, and get on our mailing list to be the first to know when next year’s deadline opens!
In 2012 we were thrilled to offer two scholarships for local teachers on a training course on Prince William Sound– thanks to support from the Chugach National Forest! Scholarships were also again available for teachers who wish to attend one of Alaska Geographic’s field seminar and trainings out of the Murie Science and Learning Center. The deadline was December 18, 2011– stay tuned for scholarship opportunities for 2013 courses. Teachers that attend our seminars and trainings help us share park science and an appreciation for public lands.
The field-based courses are small group intensives that expose teachers to science, research, and educational opportunities. Most courses overnight at a remote field camp within Denali National Park and venture each day on education hikes and activities. These are not your ordinary teacher courses!
The scholarship covers 75% of course tuition. To assist teachers and school districts from remote Alaskan Schools, the scholarship committee will also award several scholarships that cover 100% of the tuition and provide a $400 travel stipend. The scholarship program is limited to full-time K-12 teachers within the United States.
The 2012 courses available for scholarships:
- iMovie: Moviemaking and Podcasting in Denali (June 5 – 7)
- Taking it Outside: Connecting Science, Writing, & Students
- Teaching About Climate Change (July 10 – 13)
- Bears of Denali (July 31 – August 2)
